How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

Film Name -2:14 We see the name of the film so late into the trailer so that it will be memorable to the audience. However, we also hear mention of the film title throughout the trailer, as the main protagonist is asked to write an article called 'How to lose a guy in 10 days'.

Actors - We are told the stars names so late into the trailer through the use of a voice over so that people do not forget them. However, both Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are very recognizable people, as they both appear in the genre multiple times. Fans of both stars will want to come and see the film. They are both introduced with a sort of tag line, as Andie introduces herself to us within the first second of the trailer, and we are then told that she is a how-to girl at a magazine. We also see close ups of each to establish them in our audiences mind.

What ties action together - 0:12 - These graphics on screen tells the viewer a bit more about the film, linking shots together so that the story is easier to follow. Presented on a black background with white text to stand out. This makes it more likely that the audience will read the information.

Narrative -The trailer introduces us to what the film is going to be about. Andie works as Composure Magazine as a how-to girl and her new assignment is How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, whereas Ben has a bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. These two are thrown together and both try to win their bets. The trailer leaves us with an enigma.. will they be together? Who will win the bet?

Music -Non diegetic through the use of a soundtrack - Hispanic Dance - Claude Bolling, Original Trailer Music - ParodiFair, Glad - Traffic, You're So Vain - Carly Simon, You Better You Bet - The Who, Don't Dream It's Over - Sixpence None The Richer, all pretty well known songs, as with most Rom Coms. As well as this, there is a voice over that announces the name of the stars, as well as using genre specific lexis, such as 'it's turning into something that could last a lifetime'. Diegetic sound - Sounds of moving traffic, record player, slamming of cabinet door, dog bark.

Timing - Just over two minutes long. However, the trailer doesn't feel that fast paced, although you still get a lot of information crammed in.

Last frame - The last frame sees Andie asking Ben a question. 'True or false, all is fair in love and war', to which Ben replies true. This is obviously designed to intrigue the audience, as we are aware of the situation that both protagonists are in. However, it is also used as a rhetoric, which makes the audience question this themselves.
